As a follow-up to our report on April 14, 2011, we would like to provide further
information on the effects of the earthquake as well as our current business situation.
Around three months have passed since the Great East Japan Disaster Earthquake occurred.
As you probably know from media reports, governmental and private bodies in Japan
are working together to tackle post-earthquake recovery and restoration programs
in the affected areas.
In addition, a roadmap for resolving the situation following the accident at the
nuclear power station in Fukushima Prefecture has been released and concrete measures
are being undertaken.
Although some industries, such as the automobile industry, were seriously affected
by supply chain disruptions, their corporate activities are recovering more rapidly
than expected.
At the same time, as for the possible power shortages anticipated in the coming
summer, no serious problems are expected due to energy conservation efforts being
implemented throughout all Japan (including government, industry and private households).
Now, when we look at our situation, the procurement of parts and materials related
to Shimadzu's manufacturing activities is proceeding smoothly thanks to the rapid
recovery of the supply chain as mentioned above, as well as the availability of
substitute parts. We are very pleased to confirm that we will be able to manage
parts and materials procurement activities in an ordinary manner to meet the requirement
of manufacturing and service-support activities now and in future as well.
Such being the case, you may confidently count on Shimadzu. We remain committed
to serving whatever needs you may have, in accordance with our corporate slogan,
"Best for Our Customers."
