Meet Shimadzu at the 109th International Brewing & Engineering Congress 2025 in Kulmbach

The 109th International Brewing & Engineering Congress of VLB Berlin will take place from March 25th till March 27th, 2025, in Kulmbach, Germany. This symposium is one of the most important brewing technical events and appeals to researchers, technologists, scientists and other professionals involved in the fields of brewing, malting, beverage engineering and fermentation. Shimadzu will be joining the exhibition with a booth, presenting the latest innovations for the brewing community.

Simple steps for the analysis of beer and its precursors

Beer is one of the favorite beverages in the world with 178.6 billion liters sold last year. With recent advances in alcohol extraction, beer has become prevalent not only as an alcoholic beverage, but also as a non-alcoholic alternative while maintaining its high quality and taste.

Beer quality and the upholding quality standards in beer dates to the German beer purity law from 1516, however our possibilities to analyze beer have vastly improved since then. Nowadays the quality standards for beer analysis are defined by the Central European Commission for Brewing Analysis (MEBAK) and the European Brewery Convention (EBC). These organizations watch over regulations which include the determination of:

  • color and viscocity
  • numerous elements (e.g. Arsenic, Calcium, Copper, Sodium, Potassium, and more),
  • of the sugar spectrum
  • anions (e.g. as nitrate and sulfite)
  • organic components (ethanol, glycerine)
  • unwanted organic components (pesticides and mycotoxins

Different analytical techniques like spectroscopy, chromatography, mass- spectrometry are needed to quantify all the potential contaminants. Shimadzu offers a wide range of analytical equipment and can provide appropriate configurations and applications as a complete solution for beer analysis.

Take a look at our solutions for beer analysis. We are looking forward to welcoming you on the Shimadzu booth.
