Complete Solution for beer analysis

Beer is one of the favorite alcoholic beverages in the world with a high level of quality, reaching back to the German beer purity law from 1516. Nowadays the quality standards for beer analysis are defined by the Central European Commission for Brewing Analysis (MEBAK) and the European Brewery Convention (EBC), representing technical and scientific interests of the brewing sector in the European countries. These regulations include the determination of numerous elements (such as Arsenic, Calcium, Copper, Sodium, Potassium, and more), anions (such as nitrate and sulfite) as well as organic components (ethanol, glycerine) and last not least pesticides and mycotoxins. In order to maintain the high level of quality, chemical investigations have to be performed, using different analytical techniques like spectroscopy, chromatography, mass- spectrometry to quantify all the potential contaminants.
Shimadzu offers a wide range of analytical equipment and can provide appropriate configurations and applications as a total solution for beer analysis.

Take a look at our solutions for beer analysis. We are looking forward to welcoming you on the Shimadzu booth.

New Nexera UHPLC system: “The perfect fit for beer analysis”

Shimadzu’s Nexera series of UHPLC systems offers groundbreaking technology in terms of intelligence, efficiency and design. Advanced AI capabilities and lab management using the Internet of Things (IoT) have been integrated to monitor performance and resource allocation. They make the new Nexera systems a leading-edge and user-friendly solution for versatile industries, setting new benchmarks in UHPLC.

SFC-MS/MS: “Pesticide Analysis by SFC-MS”

SFC-MS/MS can be used to separate numerous pesticides with a wide range of different polarities, and it also achieves a marked increase in sensitivity for a large number of compounds. The combination of intrinsic universal sensitivity and specificity of the Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer with the versatility of supercritical fluid chromatography technique offers an appealing alternative to the conventional LC-MS approach.

LCMS-8060NX “Maximized sensitivity – minimized matrix effects in Pesticide Analysis”

In the newly-developed IonFocus unit, the ion transport electrodes reduce sensitivity loss from matrix effects by expelling neutral matrix particles with greater efficiency. Using the LCMS-8060NX's world-class polarity reversal speed (5 ms) and data capture speed (1.5 ms), stable data was obtained even for high-speed analysis of multiple components. The IonFocus unit also introduces ions into the detector more efficiently, improving the signal intensity. Of 100 compounds tested in tea leaves, 96% showed excellent recoveries.

GCMS TQ-8050 NX „Ultra-High-Sensitivity Triple Quadrupole GC-MS for Food testing“

Equipped with a new highly efficient detector and three forms of noise-reduction technologies, the GCMS-TQ8050 NX is capable of performing unprecedented quantitative analyses of ultra-trace amounts, down to the femtogram level.

Nexis SCD-2030 „Chemiluminescence detector for Sulphur Analysis

The new Nexis SCD-2030 provides several features which support an easier operation and workflow: a wealth of automation functions which had to be handled manually before; guidance through method development; diagnostic functions, etc.. In addition, the system is used to analyze matrices of high complexity such as beer and raw materials and it is able to display individual Sulfur components as well as a kind of Sulfur “Sum Parameter”.“ Simplifies complexity” is a direct benefit releasing the operator from comprehensive handling.

ICPMS-2030 for heavy metal analysis in beer and water

The ICPMS-2030 is the first inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer including two assistant functions for analytical method development and diagnosis of analytical results. The newly developed collision cell provides highest sensitivity for analysis of heavy metals in hemp and cannabis samples. The use of the patented environmental friendly mini-torch results in lowest running cost.

UV-1900i UV-VIS spectrophotometer

UV-VIS spectrophotometers are the right analytical instruments for a brewers lab. They enable to determine color and IBU (International Bitterness Unit). A multi-talent for routine analysis, Shimadzu’s UV-1900i performs bitterness and color analysis in an easy way. The color of beer and wort is controlled according to the EBC (European Brewery Convention). The method involves the UV-1800 to measure the attenuation of light at a wavelength of 430 nanometers [nm], as it passes through a sample contained in a 1 cm cuvette located in the light path of the instrument.
