New Managing Director for Shimadzu Europa GmbH
Jürgen Semmler to retire / Dr. Florian Geistmann to follow
As of October 1st, 2026, Dr. Florian Geistmann takes over as Managing Director of Shimadzu Europa GmbH, succeeding Jürgen Semmler, who has retired on September 30th after five years at the helm of the European organisation and almost 40 years with the company in total.
Dr. Geistmann has been with Shimadzu since 2002 and served as Managing Director of the German organisation from 2021. Prior to this, he held various positions at Shimadzu Germany and Shimadzu Europa.
The end of an era – and start of a new
Semmler took over as Managing Director of Shimadzu Europa in July 2021. Prior to this, he had led the then newly established independent German organisation since 2006. Semmler has been with Shimadzu since 1987 and began his career with the company as an HPLC service engineer. The whole Shimadzu group wants to express its deepest gratitude for Semmler’s work, who has been with the company for more than 39 years.
Following Semmler, in his new role, Dr. Geistmann will assume responsibility for the European subsidiary of a company that has been present in Europe since 1968. Shimadzu provides solutions for analytical instrumentation and medical technology. In the field of medical technology, Shimadzu offers devices for diagnostic imaging, ranging from mobile systems to stationary units. Its analytical systems are used in science and research as well as across a wide range of industries, including chemicals, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, food and beverages, automotive, semiconductors and plastics. Applications include process and quality control as well as consumer, patient and environmental protection.
Merging a European perspective with German market insights
Dr. Geistmann brings extensive experience in sales, customer care and corporate management, spanning both Shimadzu’s German and European organisations. Dr. Geistmann, who holds a doctorate in analytical chemistry, began his career at Shimadzu in 2002 at the Technical Office in Munich as a sales specialist for TOC and spectroscopy systems.
In 2019, after having led the Munich office eventually, Dr. Geistmann moved to the European headquarters in Duisburg, where he took responsibility for Customer Care. In this role, he was jointly responsible, amongst other things, for the further development of training, processes and the after-sales division. From July 2021 onwards, he served as Managing Director of Shimadzu Germany.
Looking ahead to further development in Europe
Dr. Geistmann intends to draw on the experience he has gained in his various roles at Shimadzu in his new position. Customer centricity will be a key focus there: “Understanding our customers’ needs and maintaining close relationships with them have been central to my work at Shimadzu. I want to build on this approach at an European level.”
Another priority will be the further development of Shimadzu’s activities in the European clinical market together with its pan-European clinical support team. “In addition, there are other markets where we aim to gain an even deeper understanding of our customers’ workflows and find ways to simplify them. This also includes after-sales services, which should remain another key factor in customers’ decision to choose Shimadzu and, in turn, contribute to our continued growth.”
