    Overview

"Overview" provides a general outline of the instruments, including the basic principles. It summaries general technology and configurations of the instruments.

A Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is an analytical instrument used mainly for structural estimation (qualification) of organic compounds. When molecules are irradiated with infrared rays, they absorb infrared rays equivalent to the vibrational energy between the atoms that make up the molecules. Infrared spectroscopy is used to estimate and quantify the structure of compounds by examining the degree of absorption.

Dispersive infrared spectrophotometers using diffraction gratings have been the mainstream devices for infrared spectroscopy from the early days until recently. Since then, along with the advancement of technology, Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometers (FT-IR), which have a wave number monitor using a laser beam, an interferometer with a moving mirror, and a computational processing unit using a computer, have become mainstream.
