EMC Center designated as TÜV Rheinland Japan appointed laboratory - Aiming to become an even more reliable testing laboratory

The EMC Center, located at Shimadzu headquarters, has been designated as a TÜV Rheinland Japan (TRJ) appointed laboratory.

From now on data reports of EMC*1 tests performed by the Shimadzu EMC Center, based on test plans drawn up by TRJ, will be treated as valid data reports for the EMC compatibility test reports issued by TRJ.

TRJ is the Japanese subsidiary of TÜV Rheinland Group, an international third-party certification company with headquarters in Germany that offers services in areas such as product safety certification, quality control system audit, and the assessment, inspection, and certification of compliance with international and national laws and regulations. Since TRJ is registered as a third-party certification body under the Japanese Act on Securing Quality, Efficacy and Safety of Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices, Regenerative and Cellular Therapy Products, Gene Therapy Products, and Cosmetics (abbreviated as the "PMD Act" *2) and the EU Medical Device Directive, medical equipment that Shimadzu manufactures and sells has undergone evaluation by TRJ and certifications have been acquired.

In August this year, the Shimadzu EMC Center, which is equipped with a large 10 m anechoic chamber*3 and two small ones, has received ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory accreditation (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories). With our well-maintained facilities and special technical experts who hold iNARTE certification as EMC engineers, we have started EMC testing according to various international standards. Since the EMC Center is now a TRJ appointed laboratory, the EMC testing required for test reports can be performed using in-house equipment and personnel, which is expected to shorten time for development and reduce costs. Furthermore, the qualification as an appointed laboratory means that it is equipped with test equipment and capabilities that satisfy required criteria, and leads to an increased level of trust from external stakeholders.

By performing standards conformance testing in a testing laboratory with high reliability, Shimadzu remains committed to improving product quality so that we can offer high-quality products that support customers around the world, and providing efficient service.

*1 EMC: Electromagnetic compatibility. Electromagnetic compatibility is the ability of a device to both operate without affecting nearby electrical or electronic equipment due to its electromagnetic emissions and without itself being affected by electromagnetic radiation from other devices in the vicinity.
*2 PMD Act: The name was changed from the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law when the Law for Partial Amendment of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law (Law No. 84, 2013) was enacted.
*3 Anechoic chamber: A shielded room designed and constructed so that it is able to reflect away any electromagnetic waves from the outside and absorb any electromagnetic waves generated inside the room.
